Terms of Use

Last updated: April 20, 2026

Agreement

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Sonata (“Sonata”, “we”, “us”) governing your use of the Sonata website, service, and any related features (together, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

What Sonata does

Sonata takes a link to a song you provide, fetches the audio, and produces an automatic piano arrangement you can view in a built-in sheet player and download as MIDI or PDF. The output is generated automatically and is best treated as a strong starting point for practice or arranging — it may contain errors, omissions, and stylistic differences from the source.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

Accounts

You can use parts of the Service without an account. If you create one, you’re responsible for keeping your login credentials secure, for all activity under your account, and for providing accurate information. Notify us promptly at chibernard321@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

Your content and copyright

When you submit a song link to Sonata, you represent that you have the right to access and transcribe the audio at that link for your own use, and that doing so complies with applicable copyright law in your jurisdiction and with the terms of service of the site hosting the audio.

Sonata does not grant you any rights in the underlying music. The copyright in the original song belongs to its rights holders. You are solely responsible for how you use the transcription output, including any decision to perform, distribute, publish, or monetize it.

To the extent the generated arrangement is itself a work capable of copyright, Sonata does not claim ownership of it. However, the Service itself, including its software, designs, and branding, belongs to Sonata.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to infringe, violate, or misappropriate any intellectual-property or privacy right.
  • Submit links to content you do not have a lawful right to access.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, overload, or otherwise interfere with the Service.
  • Use the Service to create outputs that are illegal, defamatory, harassing, or otherwise harmful.
  • Circumvent rate limits, access controls, or paid-plan gates.
  • Resell or redistribute the Service, or a substantial portion of generated outputs, as your own product.

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for any violation of these rules.

Copyright complaints (DMCA)

We respect the rights of copyright holders and respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement. If you believe material produced by the Service (or accessed through it) infringes your copyright, send a notice to chibernard321@gmail.com that includes:

  • Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
  • Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it (a link or sheet ID is ideal).
  • Your contact information (email, address, phone).
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.
  • Your physical or electronic signature.

Paid plans and billing

Some features of the Service are offered on paid plans. By subscribing, you authorize us and our payment processor (Stripe) to charge your payment method at the interval shown at checkout. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; access continues until the end of the current billing period.

Unless required by law, fees are non-refundable. We may change plan pricing or features with reasonable notice to signed-in users.

Service availability and changes

We do our best to keep the Service running smoothly, but we can’t guarantee continuous, uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. For paid users, we’ll make reasonable efforts to notify you in advance of material changes that affect the features you pay for.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” Sonata makes no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Transcription output is generated automatically; it may be inaccurate, incomplete, or differ stylistically from the source recording. You are responsible for reviewing output before relying on it.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sonata will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) US$50.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sonata and its officers, employees, and contractors from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if we’re required to by law, or if continuing to provide the Service becomes impractical. The sections that by their nature should survive termination (including IP, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will survive.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of [insert your jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the courts located in [insert your jurisdiction], and you consent to their jurisdiction.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, give signed-in users reasonable notice (in-app or by email) before the new version takes effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
